first, i finished out the school year, but not without bawling my eyes out while showing my class and their parents the end of year video i made for them. this has been a majorly great year for me and all of my kids. i think i was so emotional at the end because this is the first year where i've really felt like i've got a handle on myself and on my teaching, and that led me to be more open and really get to know my kids. next august, i'll have a whole new batch of kiddos, and the ones i taught my first year will be in the 7th grade. my goodness, my gracious.
then, we got some awful news that our assistant principal has gotten reassigned. i am not going to say much more about it other than it was and still is awful news. how we're going to function without kathy, i don't know.
we had a terrible flea infestation awhile ago, but i think it's mostly taken care of now. flea bombs + flea meds + flea powder + flea spray + flea bath = SO MUCH MONEY. i have no idea how we got them, either; my cats only stay inside. an exterminator suggested they may have gotten in through our floorboards, because we live in an old house with wood floors, and wouldn't you know the past couple weeks we've heard some type of creature trying to claw its way through our floor. gross. go away, creature under the house. you're the stuff nightmares (and expensive flea problems) are made of.
since school's been out, i've had to fix my car (eesh, so much money!), i got another tattoo, i got to celebrate my brother's 8th birthday with him in dallas, got to play golf again for the first time in a loooooong time, i've made lots of homemade meals, and i've been working on my tan. all of those things are great. i've also just signed a lease on an apartment way down south on slaughter lane (which, for the record, can i just say WTH were you thinking, person who named that street? what a terrible name that is!). jj and i have decided to not live together after our current lease is up, and while it's been extremely emotional, i know everything will be just fine. it makes more sense, really, for me to be closer to work, and for him to stay up in this area so he's close to school, but it's going to be a big adjustment. i love him, though, and i know he loves me, so hard as it may be to make the switch, i'm determined to not let it be a step backwards.
i leave for california on thursday. gonna get to see nicole and lauren and have some nice time at the beach and a winery, if things go as planned. then i come home, attend an ESL training for three days, then dad, nancy and drew come in to town for their first visit in ages. soon after that jj and i will head to north carolina to be a part of my mom's wedding (yay!), and then take a mini vacation to washington, dc, just the two of us. that's all the traveling i'll be doing this summer; can't quite do what i did last year because that ate up all my money, but i'm damn excited about these trips and visits. anyone have advice on where to go/what to see in DC?
oh, and speaking of my mom, i don't know how i left off mentioning something about thrifting in my last post about my mom. i guess because it seems so obvious to me, but really: my mom taught me everything i know about shopping at thrift stores. finding diamonds in the rough, and giving it time and dedication. probably more than half the stuff in my house has come from thrift stores (or dumpsters...yeah that happens, and recently, too!) and i have only my momma to thank for teaching me the art of thrifting.
okay! time for laundry so i can pack for california. until next time, which better not be a month from now.
