goal #4 revised

so i go from never posting to posting three times in two days (?!). i'm doing this one because i realized i needed to update one of my goals:

under the category for myself i included this goal: #4: move away from austin (this will only be done if i can find another job. if i can't then the goal will be to move out of an apartment and into a house).

first of all, i don't see myself moving out of austin any time soon. moving away from austin was never a goal i really wanted to achieve, but i added it in my list because i do know i want to see more of the country (and the world). however, i've traveled more this year than i ever have and i didn't have to move away from austin to do it. so now, i'm just going to keep saving my money so i can stay in austin and travel during my time off. i'm already doing well, too, what with china, marfa, las vegas, costa rica, north carolina and then europe for 2010 alone. maybe a trip to dc soon, too, i hope.

that said, i am 100% sure i want to have a house. the main reason i want to have a house is because i want to have a yard, and the reason why i want to have a yard is so i can plant a garden, make a compost pile (although i have seen websites that show you how to do it in a closet, so i guess technially i could have that now...), and maybe even get some baby chickens! jj has a coop in his backyard but hasn't gotten any chickens yet, so perhaps we could do that together in august. backyard chickens are fun, and i'd love to raise them and have those wonderful eggs in my backyard. plus i'm sure maggie and corona would love the eye candy.

reading this post about the backyard chickens at austin farm to table's blog reminded me that i had seen an event posting about that in my austin monthly magazine but i totally forgot about it. i'm encouraged by that post and it really makes me want to have those things in a backyard of my own. i also recently heard about resolution gardens on KUT, although i'm still tentative about hiring someone to help me start a garden. i'm fairly confident i can do that successfully on my own, but i like that they're helping people jump on the gardening band wagon.

so, updated goal: #4: move into a house with a yard after my lease is up in june. start a garden, a compost pile, and plant flowers. then hope for baby chickens.
